Occupation Unit - Doctor
For our unit on occupations Dr. Shapiro, Samuel's dad, came in to The Orchard Class to talk to the children about his occupation as a doctor. He helps people who have problems with their lungs, heart and esophagus. He read a book that explained to the children how different parts of the body function. He discussed his role as a surgeon and showed the children pictures of an operating room, a chest x-ray, and a healthy lung verses a lung that has some issues. He also talked to the children about the different tools he uses in his job. He introduced them to a finger pulse oximeter and they got to take turns reading their oxygen level. Dr. Shapiro also showed them his stethoscope and they were able to listen to their hearts. Many thanks to Dr. Shapiro for coming into the classroom to share his occupation with us.Â
