Occupation Week: Mr. Larson, Agent in the Opera Industry, Mrs. Larson, American Express

Special guests for Occupation week were Mr. & Mrs. Larson (Andrew's parents). Mrs. Larson talked briefly about her job working for American Express. Then Mr. Larson shared with the children his occupation as an agent in the opera industry, He explained to the children that opera is a story told through singing, often in a different language such as German or Italian.

They listened to opera samples of really high voices and really low voices. Mr. Larson played opera music that told the story of "The Magic Flute," while Mrs. Larson showed puppets to help re-enact the song in story form. Mr. Larson discussed the role of the opera conductor and all the children got to make their own colorful batons.

We had an extra special treat - Mr. & Mrs. Larson brought their friends Norman & Soula with them to visit the classroom, both of whom are professional opera singers who have sung in Germany, France and Madrid. The children got to hear opera sung right in our very own classroom!
Many thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Larson, as well as Norman & Soula, for coming into the classroom to share their very cool occupations with us
