

Snow day Wednesday March 21st
We have just been notified that Ridgewood Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday March 21st. Therefore, Montessori Learning Center will be closed tomorrow.
With school closed tomorrow, Back to school night is also cancelled.
Back to school night will be re-scheduled for Thursday, March 22.


Field Trip - Little Nest Photography & Movie Theater
The Orchard’s Class field trip today started at the Little Nest Photography Studio. The photographers, Megan and Melissa, escorted the children around the studio and showed them their cameras and the special lights they use when they take pictures. They also showed the children some of the photographs they have taken. Then we went next door to the Ridgewood movie theater. Our guide, Mike, showed the children how he makes popcorn and they got to have some as a special snack. W


Field Trip to The police Station & Library
The Orchard Class field trip at the Ridgewood Police Station and Library. First we meet up with Officer Elwood and Officer Perez and they deputized each of the kids with a police badge sticker as they entered the station. Then they showed the children the inside of the police station. They were able to see the jail cell and the fingerprint station, along with some of the officer's tools such as his handcuffs and bullet proof "bat" shield. We then went outside and saw the poli


Occupation Unit- Banker
Mr. Jackson, Grace's dad, came into the classroom to share his occupation as a private banker. Mr. Jackson helps people with buying their homes and securing loans. Basically, he helps people accomplish thier dreams. Each child received a bag of play money and chocolate colins and he discussed the value of money.

Field Trip to the Post Office
The Bird’s Nest class visited the Post Office. The children learned about the process to deliver mail, had the opportunity to talk to some post office workers, see the different sections of the facility and help with some packages.


Occupation Unit - Doctor
For our unit on occupations Dr. Shapiro, Samuel's dad, came in to The Orchard Class to talk to the children about his occupation as a doctor. He helps people who have problems with their lungs, heart and esophagus. He read a book that explained to the children how different parts of the body function. He discussed his role as a surgeon and showed the children pictures of an operating room, a chest x-ray, and a healthy lung verses a lung that has some issues. He also talked t


Occupation Unit- Engineer
Mrs. Miller, Alex's mom, came into The Orchard classroom to talk about her occupation as an industrial engineer. Mrs. Miller is an engineer who works for a bank, making decisions on which companies and people to give money to. The children learned about the different kinds of engineering, such as civil, environmental, computer, mechanical, and aerospace. She showed them pictures of airplanes, tunnels, bridges, televisions, computers, skyscrapers and much more and explained th


Recyclable Occupation Creations
Introducing Then Orchard’s Class newly finished recyclable occupation creations. This is what we ended up making with all of the recyclables the children brought to school a few weeks ago. The children painted the creations and then we took a vote on their names. They created Dr. Morocco, Officer Chase, Fireman Heatwave, a fire truck , an ambulance, and a patient on a stretcher named Ralph.

Russia
On February 11th, The Bird’s Nest class had the visit of Mrs. Elena Kalyaguin (Sasha’s mother) we learned about the beautiful country of Russia, the class was presented with two beautiful presents, A cardboard replica of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral and wooden Matryoshkas dolls. Children learned about the culture, we read a book and heard a beautiful poem in Russian (recited by our student Sasha). Children received a little Matryoshka doll keychain as a gift.
